For paddlers transitioning from off-season to on-water training, this program builds aerobic endurance and refines technique to maximize efficiency and performance. With structured paddling and land-based drills, it ensures a seamless return to the water and a strong foundation for the competitive season ahead.

Who it’s for:

The Spring Base Training Program is designed to transition paddlers from off-season conditioning to on-water training, developing a strong aerobic base in preparation for the competitive season. This structured program enhances endurance, refines technique, and establishes the foundation for higher-intensity paddling in the months ahead.

    •    Cold climate paddlers transitioning from land-based training to on-water sessions.

    •    Paddlers racing in late April and Early May events, such as the Head of the Dart SUP Challenge, Les 6 Heures de l’Erdre, World SUP Festival Costa Blanca, or the Crystal Pier Outrigger Canoe Race, who need to maximize their limited early-season water time.

    •    Athletes already paddling who want to refine their technique and ensure optimal performance.

    •    Paddlers still off the water due to weather conditions, who will continue land-based aerobic training and paddling-specific drills.

How it helps:

For those returning to the water, the focus is on quality over quantity, prioritizing technical precision to maximize efficiency and performance. Paddlers still training on land will follow structured cardio workouts and land drills to ensure a seamless transition.

    •    Building a solid aerobic base to support endurance and efficiency on the water.

    •    Developing and reinforcing proper technique, ensuring quality strokes over quantity.

    •    Gradually increasing training volume to avoid overuse injuries and maximize adaptation.

    •    Maintaining strength and cardio balance to complement paddling progression.

What it prepares you for:

Spring Base lays the groundwork for peak performance, building the strength, endurance, and technique needed for success in the season ahead.

    •    Progressive workload: Training starts with controlled intensity and volume to ease the transition from off-season conditioning.

    •    Refined technique: Paddlers are encouraged to prioritize form, stopping to reset if technique falters rather than pushing through with poor strokes.

    •    Integrated land-based training: Those not yet paddling will continue structured cardio workouts and land drills to ensure a smooth return to the water.

    •    Smart training order: Paddle sessions come first, followed by strength training, with cardio workouts positioned strategically for recovery and performance.
