As we wrap up the year, it’s the perfect time to think about what we aim to achieve next season. I’m here to guide you through setting realistic paddling goals that focus on your individual performance, not just the race day results.

The essence of effective goal-setting in paddling, or any sport, isn’t about the medals or the podium finishes; it’s about bettering your own times, improving your technique, and pushing your personal limits. Performance goals allow you to track your progress every day, not just when you race. They depend entirely on you, not the conditions or the competition.

For example, aiming to maintain a specific pace over a distance lets you adjust and measure your training in real-time with tools like a GPS. This approach reduces pressure on race day because your only job is to do what you’ve practiced, not to outpace an unforeseen competitor.

This week, I encourage you to reflect on your past performances objectively. Identify your strengths and where you can improve. Think about setting layered goals for 2025: a primary goal that stretches you and a secondary, more attainable goal. Both should focus on enhancing your performance metrics.

If you’re unsure how to start or need a sounding board for your goals, remember, that’s what we’re here for at Paddle Monster. Reach out, and let’s make 2025 your best paddling year yet.

Happy New Year, and here’s to achieving all your paddling goals!
