The Official Distressed Mullet Holiday Gift Guide Part III

Mullet Gift Guide Part III

This is it, the final chapter in our guide for paddler gifts for 2017.

For the BookWorm

Giving good books, and certainly receiving them, has always been one of my favorite things. These stick out as great additions to any paddler’s library.

Beneath The Surface by Zane Kekoa Schweitzer

A fantastic gift for the paddle surfer or anyone who could benefit from just being inspired by Ultimate Waterman Zane Schweitzer’s just-released memoir, Beneath the Surface. This young man has a lot to say about life in general, and not just about competition. Building on years of journaling, Zane shares the experiences of his life and how they have shaped him into the amazing person he is today.  His message of positivity, learning, and doing what’s right is uplifting, to say the least. Find it on Amazon.

Surf Survival: The Surfer’s Health Handbook by Andrew Nathanson and Clayton Everline

If you paddle surf, prone surf or spend any time outside and around water, you want this book on your Christmas list, or if you know someone who does, wrap it up for them now. This is an indispensable handbook that might just save your life, or the life of a friend. While some sections might be a little outdated, the information on how to stay safe in the surf zone is still solid. Surf Survival also is a primer on waves and wave formation, offering great information on the science of waves and catching them. There is also information on how to deal with injuries while traveling.

Suzie Cooney

How to Increase Your Stand-Up Paddling Performance By Suzie Cooney

If you want the 4-1-1 on how to train for paddle racing, then you need Suzie’s Cooney’s book. We talk about her guide to paddle fitness, both physical and mental, a lot. And there’s a reason for that. If you haven’t put this on your list, or if you haven’t given it to that paddler in your life by now, what are you waiting for? Just do it. Order from her site.

Yoga for Paddling By Anna Levesque

Yoga is so beneficial for all kinds of sports, but Anna Levesque’s recent book dials it in for the paddler. No matter what craft is your jam, there are poses for you and this SUP yogi explains how to keep your key paddle muscles healthy and loose.

Boards and Paddles

BlkBox GS Boards

BlkBox GS boards are light, durable and affordable. Available in the 10’10” PinTail model and the 11’ Diamond Tail model, BlkBox GS Boards are great for flat water cruising and longboard style surfing. Website

Really remarkable graphics on this collab, but the Joe Bark-shaped Aleka is designed to be a good, versatile board that can handle small to medium surf as well as a flatwater workout. Comes in both 10’4” and 11’4”. Website

You cannot go wrong with any board in the Hala line when it comes to inflatables. From their carbon stringer designs for stability, to their acclaimed white water boards and even ocean surfing, we are continually impressed with the boards from Hala.

Red Paddle Company’s 15’0″ Voyager Tandem

Red says this new board is for explorers who like the share the experience.  It’s tailored to meet the needs of two paddlers  (and maybe even a third small companion if  the central cargo points are removed) who want to carry their kit along with them on their adventure. At 8″/200mm thick, there is a huge amount of volume in the board so you really can take everything including the kitchen sink with you.
The 15’0″ inflatable SUP features seven soft touch carry handles, and two luggage spaces with tie-downs to keep everything secure. Built to the Voyager formula, it has all the technology to keep you travelling in the right direction even when you’re carrying a lot of weight.
Supplied with two pumps helps to share the load of pumping up, Red Paddle Company
