A really annoying shame-based motivation technique to remind you to paddle

I subscribe to a number of newsletters that are outside the the paddlesphere. I know it’s hard to believe, but I do. Jocelyn K. Glei has a great newsletter that give basic and not-so-basic life hacks and it’s one of those newsletters I always know will bring me something useful, even if not this week. I read it.

This week, she highlighted Nagbot and I thought I’d apply it to our world and give it a go.

How does it work?

Nagbot Sends Mean Texts to you to help remind you to go paddling. Actually, it can remind you to do anything really. But as paddlers who perhaps grew up in more shame and fear-based motivational environments, this might be both useful and nostalgic.

To Get Nagged

Go to the Nagbot Website: https://nagbot.io/

Create Your Nagby entering your:

  • Name
  • Phone number
  • Goal
  • Desired frequency of nags
  • Time of nags
  • Level of meanness

You will get a confirmation text

then, wait for it….

And honestly, if you have to be nagged, maybe paddling isn’t your gig, but some of us need to remember to look up from our desks and get that kick to go get on the water.
