Go Paddle Event Profile: Cardona Island SUP Challenge 2nd Edition, Puerto Rico

Can you describe the different races and courses?
Long Distance Race – about 7 miles. Racers will go around the Cardona Island and then they will go through open ocean to the Ponce Bay and will finish inside La Guancha Bay.
Short Distance Race – about 3.25 miles. Racers will go around the Cardona Island and finish at La Guancha Bay.
Fun Paddle – less than a mile. Paddlers will go inside the bay, dressed in pink for a great cause, breast cancer research. This race will benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Menehuenes, Keikis and 6 Under – will have a course specially designed for their group age.
Big Tiki Challenge – Sprint race with a team of four paddlers on a Starboard’s Starship.
What kind of paddling settings and conditions will racers face?
Paddlers will face different water conditions from flatwater in the bay area and flat to semi-choppy water outside the bay.
What makes your event great? What will paddlers love about coming to your event?
Challenging courses with a scenic view of the Cardona Island, where the paddlers finish with a sprint race alongside the La Guancha Boardwalk. This will give an exciting finish to all spectators, watching front row from the boardwalk.
Will there be any clinics and what are the details?
There will be a SUP Yoga demo with our local Yoga Studio, V Studio.
Where can people get paddle gear like PFDs and Hydration packs?
They can get all their paddling gear at the local shop, The SUP Shack, Ponce, which is two minutes from the event’s venue.
Are there paddleboard rentals available and if yes, where? Contact info?

Where can people buy groceries?
There’s a Pueblo supermarket about 7 minutes from the venue. There’s also a gas station with a small grocery shop about 5 minutes from the race venue.
Where can people stay? Do you have a hotel you can recommend and contact info?
There are around 5 to 6 hotels in the area. The Ponce Hilton is 5 minutes from the venue, but if you want to experience Ponce’s historic charm, we recommend you stay at the Meliá Century Hotel Ponce downtown. You can contact them at 787-842-0260.
What great local restaurants can you recommend?
We have great restaurants in the area. Our race’s new venue has many places to eat. For puertorrican food you can visit El Pilón and El Patio at La Guancha (the race’s venue). There’s a great artisan pizza place downtown called Campioni. At Bahías Restaurant you can also find great seafood as well as puertorrican food.

Melao Coffee Shop, downtown!
Does your event benefit a charity and if so, can you tell us about them?
Part of the proceeds of the Fun Paddle and a Boga Yoga Board will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation of PR.
